What is Network Spinal Analysis? (by Dr Donald Epstein, founder)
Network Spinal Analysis™ is an evidenced based approach to wellness and body awareness. It is a gentle, non-manipulative, and wholistic form of chiropractic. Gentle precise touch to the spine cues the brain to create new wellness promoting strategies. Two unique healing waves develop with this work. They are associated with spontaneous release of spinal and life tensions, and the use of existing tension as fuel for spinal re-organization and enhanced wellness. Practitioners combine their clinical assessments of spinal refinements with patient’s self assessments of wellness and life changes. Greater self-awareness and conscious awakening of the relationships between the body, mind, emotion, and expression of the human spirit are realised through this popular healing work. NSA is exclusively practiced by Doctors of Chiropractic in relationship to the identification and self regulation of spinal tension and Subluxation patterns.
How does it work?
Your nervous system controls everything that you do, hear, see, breathe, remember and feel. It is made up of your brain, spinal cord and nerves. This master control system regulates every cell, organ, and function in your body, via these nerves. It is protected by your spinal column, the vertebrae. A disruption in the spine (vertebral subluxation) will therefore distort essential messages within your body.
When under stress, your nervous system has your body respond by tightening up around the spinal column. This reaction is called the stress (aka fight or flight) response. Normally this tension will relax and disappear. But if the stress is significant or constant your body can stay stuck in this ‘defence mode’ (fight or flight).
Network Spinal Analysis (NSA) releases core tension patterns in your body, stored in and around your spinal column. These are from a combination of physical, mental, emotional, and chemical stressors – ones often found in modern daily life, not just from trauma. It aims to promote vertebral alignment and correction of subluxations. As stress causes a whole body response and therefore has whole body effects, this then improves your whole body’s health.
In simple terms – improved spinal function leads to improved nervous system function, which equals better life experience (of your physical, mental, and emotional state).
The Technique
NSA is a finely tuned, incredibly gentle technique based on a series of strategically placed and timed light touches (the kind the brain pays most attention to). This brings your brains attention to areas that are holding on to tension, and then encourages your body to release them. Using and enhancing your body’s own powerful self-healing abilities, you will start to move and breathe differently. You will learn which of your stress patterns make you tick, and which make you sick. You will develop the ability to dissipate unhealthy patterns, one that you will keep for the rest of your life. As a result, Network care triggers an enormous amount of change.
What to expect
As your body and brain come out of the stress response they are able to stop acting out of survival/defense mode. You are more able to fully relax and regenerate. Your nervous system and therefore your body’s systems and organs are able to coordinate and work more effectively, which means the health functions of growth, repair, digestion, reproduction and elimination are restored. Changing behaviour and developing healthier habits becomes instinctive rather than a struggle.
Most people notice that things they used to find stressful no longer affect them as much. This allows you to perceive the world more clearly, perform better under pressure and become more productive.
Energy that has previously been bound up in old tension patterns is freed for you to create more of what you want in life.
Benefits of NSA
High level research has shown that as your spine, body and nervous system become healthier, physical wellbeing improves to provide more spinal flexibility, diminished symptoms and a greater ability to cope, developing an internal sense of wellness regardless of circumstances.
